Elon Musk’s announces AI venture; Everything to know about xAI

Elon Musk, the billionaire entrepreneur, unveiled his new venture, xAI, which aims to carve a niche in the highly competitive AI domain. Set to rival established players like OpenAI, Microsoft, and Google, the move has piqued the interest of industry experts and AI enthusiasts alike.

The company has formed a skilled team of engineers carefully selected from prominent technology firms in the United States. Elon Musk, renowned as the CEO of Tesla, SpaceX, and Twitter, will personally take charge of the startup as he endeavors to establish an alternative to ChatGPT, Bing chat, and Google’s Bard to rival the well-established platforms.

Interestingly, Musk has been outspoken about his belief in temporarily halting AI development and emphasizing the need for industry regulations.

During a Twitter Spaces event on Wednesday evening, Elon Musk shared his strategic approach to developing a more secure and ethical artificial intelligence (AI) system. He also stated that the concept of xAI does not center around explicitly programming morality into its AI systems. Instead, the primary objective is to create a tool that exhibits a high level of curiosity, which he believes will naturally align its behavior with human values and mitigate potential risks associated with AI advancement.

According to Musk, fostering a robust sense of curiosity within the AI will encourage it to explore and understand the true nature of the universe, which he sees as the optimal approach from an AI safety standpoint. The Twitter CEO further asserted that it would prioritize and serve pro-humanity interests, making it more reliable and beneficial for societal development.

The xAI team consists of distinguished individuals with extensive experience in the technology industry. Notably, it includes Igor Babuschkin, who previously served as an engineer at Google’s DeepMind, Tony Wu, who has a background with Google, and Christian Szegedy, a former research scientist at Google and Greg Yang, who held a previous position at Microsoft.

The recently established company operates autonomously, separate from X Corp, yet focuses on fostering strong partnerships with Twitter and Tesla, among others, as stated on the xAI website. Moreover, to illuminate the company’s objectives and vision, the team has arranged a Twitter Spaces event, a virtual meeting scheduled for July 14th.
