Battlefield 2042 is free to play with Xbox Live Gold this weekend

Battlefield 2042, the latest installment in the Battlefield series released back in November is free to play for Xbox Live Gold subscribers this weekend. You can now install the game from the Microsoft Store on Xbox consoles and play it for free until Sunday, January 9 at 11:59 PM PST.

Compared to previous episodes, Battlefield 2042 has no single-player campaign, but its various multiplayer modes support crossplay. Xbox and PlayStation 4 players can play together on maps that support up to 64 players, while PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S players can matchmake on maps with up to 128 players.

If you have an Xbox Series X or Series S console, you need to make sure to download the Series X|S version of the game, and not the Xbox One one unless you want to play the game with Xbox One/PS4 players. Both versions of the game are also on sale on the Microsoft Store until Sunday.

Star Renegades, a rogue-lite strategy RPG is also free to play this weekend for Xbox Live Gold subscribers. The [email protected] game may sound familiar to Xbox gamers as it was previously added to the Xbox Game Pass catalog last year.
