Xbox One Outsold The PlayStation 4 Last Month, Analyst Estimates – onmsft.com

Xbox One

Sony’s PlayStation 4 had an extremely successful run since it’s launch, outselling Xbox One for eight consecutive months, but it seems the month of September may bring some good news for the folks over at Microsoft. According to the estimates of Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter, Xbox One outsold the PlayStation 4 for September.

Pachter’s estimates suggest Microsoft sold 325,000 new Xbox Ones at U.S. retailers last month, while Sony sold 250,000 PlayStation 4s. The difference is not big enough to account for the previous months, but it’s a good start nonetheless, especially with the holiday season going on.

The hike could be due to the promotions the software giant has been offering. Back in September, Microsoft offered a free game with an Xbox One purchase for $399 — the Kinectless bundle. Interestingly enough it was at the same time when Activision’s popular title Destiny was unveiled. “I kind of think that free Destiny [on Xbox One] was better than [paying] for Destiny on PS4,” Pacther told GamesBeat.

Madden NFL 15

During the same time, the company also introduced the Xbox One Madden NFL 15 bundle, so technically speaking, you got two popular titles free of cost with the purchase, making it an extremely catchy deal for gaming fans. This easily means that you’re saving almost $100, plus the $399 price tag for the bundle was lower than PlayStation 4’s price tag — it amounted to $450 combined with Destiny.

This appears to be a definite improvement, but it’s just estimates, not the real numbers. The research firm NPD Group will release their monthly numbers this week, hopefully, and we’ll find out if Pachter’s estimates were correct or not. He further said, “We expect Xbox One sales to exceed those of the PS4 for only the second month since launch.”
