The Chief Product Officer of Xbox, Marc Whitten, is set to leave the Xbox team to become the Chief Product Officer of Sonos, Microsoft revealed today in an official Xbox Wire blog post. Whitten spent 14 years at the devices and services giant.
“I have had the extreme pleasure over the last 14 years to work on the greatest product with the greatest team and for the greatest community,” said Whitten. “Xbox is so special because of the amazing team I’ve had the opportunity to work with and because our fans are the most incredible fans on the planet. It has been the highlight of my career to work on a product so loved. It’s incredibly tough to leave but I am confident the best days are ahead for Xbox fans, in the capable hands of a very talented team.”
Whitten joined Microsoft back in 2000 and was a part of the original Xbox, Xbox 360, and Xbox One product launches. Whitten also helped build Xbox Live into what it is today – a service that spans 48 million members in 41 countries.
“I’ve had the pleasure of working with Marc for more than a decade and he has always led Xbox forward with a focus on our fans and delivering a platform that developers and creators can embrace to deliver incredible entertainment. We wish Marc well, while looking forward to the next chapter of Xbox,” Phil Spencer, Corporate Vice President of Microsoft Studios, stated in an official blog post today.
Whitten’s team will remain in tact and will report directly to Terry Myerson, who is the Executive VP that oversees the Windows, Windows Phone, and Xbox platform. He is set to join Sonos, a California based company that creates wireless audio products, as their Chief Product Officer.
