Assassin's Creed Movie set for December 2016 release

A film based on the video game series, Assassin’s Creed, is scheduled for a December 2016 release, starring Hollywood star Michael Fassbender. The film, set to be directed by Justin Kurzel, has not given out any more details other than who the director and star will be, making many fans uneasy that it may turn out to be a disaster like The Prince of Persia, starring Jake Gyllenhaal. The Assassin’s Creed screen adaptation will star Michael Fassbender in two roles, just like in the Assassin’s Creed video game series.

20th Century Fox confirmed the Assassin’s Creed movie release as well as offering some details as to the plot. Fassbender will play the role of Michael Lynch, a death row inmate who ends up in the war with the Templars. He will also play the role of Aguilar de Agarorobo, an assassin involved in the Spanish Inquisition.

Long time fans of Assassin’s Creed will likely be pleased that the movie villain has ties with Rodrigo Borgia, the man Ezio Auditore took out in Assassin’s Creed 2 (AC2). In AC 2: Discovery, available on the Nintendo DS and iOS, you meet Tomas de Torquemada, who idolizes Rodrigo Borgia, and is a major villain in the Assassin’s Creed movie.

While it has not been confirmed yet, Ezio Auditore will not be in the film, but this tidbit of information about the film’s story helps us imagine that it is likely that Fassbender’s character might have come across Ezio in his travels. Hopefully, more details will emerge as we get closer to the Assassin’s Creed film December 2016 release.
