Another day, another round on the Windows Phone apps merry-go-round. It feels like, at this point, Rudy Hyun could make a quick dime on a Windows Phone ‘app removal’ Bingo-style game in the store.
Earlier today, some Windows Phone users were given a pleasant high, and some are now being dealt a sobering low. Developer Madfinger Games posted a YouTube teaser of their very popular mobile first-person shooter, Dead Trigger 2. The game appears to an imminent release on Windows Phones soon. Although the game was originally released on both Android and iOS back in October 2013, developer Madfinger still seems enthusiastic about its release on Windows Phone.
“Windows Phone version of Dead Trigger 2 is done. We sent it to approval process to Microsoft. We’re waiting only for a green light.”
Now for the bad news. Today Major League Baseball decided that it would no longer offer the “MLB at Bat” app in the Windows Phone Store. It was reported earlier this month that the app would lose update support but would still be available for use. That is no longer the case.
Windows Phone users are now greeted with a “this app is no longer published.” The developers behind MLB at Bat have not yet offered any answers on why the app was pulled, or whether or not they will return to Windows 10 for phones. The developers are offering refunds for paid subscribers. As of right now, MLB.TV is still available in the Windows Store.
While it seems like apps are always coming and going in the Windows Phone Store, the abundance of apps, being removed in the past three weeks is a bit head scratching. What’s even more puzzling is that MLB app was update a little over 5 months ago (Nov 14, 2014) and now it’s being completely removed from the store.
