A new report indicates that Microsoft is planning on including a cool new feature (and possibly a much needed feature) in the upcoming Windows Phone 8 mobile operating system. This new feature allows for built-in backup capability for text messages!

According to the report, during Windows Phone 8’s first launch on a device, the user will be prompted to use a Microsoft account to keep data in sync. During this prompt, there will be another screen that lets users set up their backup settings and sync app lists/settings, text messages, and photos/videos. Not much else is known about this feature but it obviously looks straight-forward and is a much needed feature (at least for some people). Microsoft has yet to officially announce any plans for a SMS backup feature in Windows Phone 8. More on this as it develops.
