With Windows 10 S, Minecraft Education Edition, Office 365 Education, and more, Microsoft hoped to take a big chunk of the education market away from Google and Apple. Today, the company shared an interesting report from Futuresource, showing these initiatives are working in their favor.

According to the Futuresource report, more K-12 schools in the US are choosing affordable Windows devices. Windows share grew an additional 6.5 points year-over-year in US K-12 education for devices under $300. Microsoft says this is the highest share in four years in this price category.

The report also shows that Apple’s iPad shares are down in the education market in the fourth quarter. In the words of Ben Davis, Senior Market Analyst at Futuresource Consulting.:

“Apple’s iPad volumes declined year-on-year after shipments reached a quarterly high of over 1 million units during Q2 2017… The sub $300 price category saw the largest rise in share, growing 6% year-on-year, in part thanks to Microsoft and its OEM partners launching a raft of lower cost education focused Windows devices in recent past.” These devices have been positioned as Chrome compete solutions, providing an alternative to the value orientated Chromebooks.”

Microsoft is claiming that “more than one million new Windows 10 devices” are used by students in K-12 and higher education. The company also holds OneNote has grown more than 75 percent in the last year, with more than 18 million new student notebooks. Learn more about Microsoft Education by checking here.
