Recently, we learned about the possibility of Microsoft creating an option in the upcoming Windows 8.1 update (Windows Blue) to allow users to bypass the Start Screen and boot directly to the desktop. This was based on code that was discovered inside important operating system files.
Now, new information is coming from a user over at MDL (which we learned about via Neowin), indicating that this boot-to-desktop feature may be a feature for a ‘Kiosk mode.’ This piece of information was gathered from editing the “twinui-CanSuppressStartScreen” key in the Windows registry.
“twinui-CanSuppressStartScreen is related to a “kiosk mode” and I didn’t find any other feature that it controls, at least in this early build. You’ll have to set twinui-CanSuppressStartScreen to 1 in the ProductPolicies key (via ProductPolicyEditor from wsservice_crack) and create a DWORD key “KioskMode” in HKLM\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Exp lorer\\StartMenu with value 1,” the user states on MDL.
Of course, we are talking about a product that is still in development. Things can drastically change before we know it. As of right now, it is up in the air if Microsoft will in fact allow users to boot straight to the desktop via an option or if this boot to desktop feature is simply for a special ‘Kiosk mode.’ We’ll have to wait until June for Build 2013 before Microsoft spills the beans on this upcoming update to Windows 8.
