Microsoft has officially announced that Windows 8 can now be pre-ordered. On top of that, Windows 8 will come in five different packaging flavors, which you can choose from. Microsoft believes that this packaging takes a fresh new approach to the old ways of packaging Windows.

“Starting today, you can reserve a packaged DVD of the upgrade to Windows 8 Pro for $69.99 USD ERP* (U.S.) at select retailers. When you receive your copy of the Windows 8 Pro upgrade, you’ll see that the packaging takes a fresh approach, in the reimagining of Windows,” Microsoft states in an official blog post. Windows 8 can be purchased as an upgrade DVD for $69.99 at select stores, such as Amazon.com, Best Buy, Staples, Office Depot and the Microsoft Store. You can also upgrade online via Windows.com using the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant for just $39.99 USD. This upgrade offer ends January 31st, 2013. If not, you can pre-order new Windows 8 PCs and devices from OEM partners such as Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, Samsung and Sony. Keep in mind that these are estimated retail prices.
