Windows 8 Aug 2013 marketshare

August 2013 has come to a close and now it’s time to take a look at how well Microsoft’s Windows 8 operating system is doing in terms of market share. According to new data from NetApplications, Windows 8 currently holds a 7.41% market share, compared to 5.40% market share the month prior. This means Windows 8 has seen an increase in market share by 2% in just one month!

As of August 2013, Microsoft’s Windows 8 operating system holds a 7.41% market share. Windows 7 continues to be at the top of the Windows food chain with a 45.63% share. Windows XP remains in second place with a market share of 33.66%.

An interesting thing to note is that Windows 7 actually went up in market share by 1.14% compared to the previous month. Perhaps this is due to the end of life of Windows XP that is over the horizon. Windows XP saw a 3.53% drop in market share compared to the previous month.

August 2013 marked the first time Windows 8 saw a big jump in market share. With the upcoming Windows 8.1 update scheduled for October 18th, expect to see yet another jump in share.
