Apple updates Bootcamp with Windows 10 support

MacRumors has reported that Apple is currently releasing an update to Boot Camp, a tool that allows Mac owners to dual boot a different OS on their device. The latest update brings support for Windows 10.

Ever since Apple made the decision to switch to Intel’s central processors for their Macbook and iMac lines, Apple computers have had the ability to create and boot from a partition in their hard drive running Windows (or Linux for that matter with a little more work by the device owner).

MacRumors states that while the update is still being distributed, it is starting to show up within Windows partitions in Boot Camp. MacRumors also notes that Boot Camp 6 will support multiple native Mac feature when running Windows 10 such as:

  • USB 3.
  • USB-C.
  • Thunderbolt.
  • Built-in SD and SDXC card slots.
  • Built in or external Apple SuperDrives.
  • Apple keyboard, mouse, and trackpad.

Lastly, Boot Camp will only support Windows 10 on Macs running OS X Yosemite and requires an authentic copy of Windows 10 if you are installing Windows for the first time on a partition. If you are already running an upgrade eligible version of Windows 7 or 8.1 then you can take advantage of Microsoft’s free upgrade offer to get Windows 10 in your Windows partition.

Are you planning to upgrade any Macbooks or iMacs to Windows 10? Let us know in the comments section below.
