Windows 10 news recap: Redstone pen support, Windows Update, and more – onmsft.com

Welcome back to our weekly Windows 10 news recap, in which we recap the top news stories regarding Windows 10 for the week. Let’s dive straight in.

Microsoft is working on a complete ‘update’ to File Explorer on Windows 10

Recently, it was revealed that Microsoft is working on a new File Explorer for Windows 10. Microsoft’s Peter Skillman revealed the news in a tweet, but no specific details were given.

Windows 10 PCs receive update KB3140741

Microsoft pushed a small update to Windows 10 PCs this morning. Dubbed KB3140741, the update goes by pretty quickly and doesn’t require a reboot.

Microsoft working on framerate lock issues for UWP games, fix coming later this year

Here’s what Microsoft had to say about this: “Some of the early feedback we’ve gotten from the first wave of UWP-enabled games is that people don’t like that v-sync is locked to the refresh rate of the monitor or that there’s a lack of support for Gsync and Freesync. We’ve taken that feedback, and we’re actively working on fixes that we’re testing with some of our first-party studios. We’ll be shipping these later this year.”

Windows 10 Redstone to offer better pen support for apps, according to reports

The next major update to Windows 10, Windows 10 Redstone, will reportedly bring better pen support for Universal Windows 10 applications. In fact, Microsoft will be bringing a better pen support control module, dubbed Radial Controller, which is much like the circular formatting menu once available in OneNote.

Microsoft rolled out a new Insider build for testers this past week, and you can check out what’s new and what’s fixed here.

Windows Update updated in latest internal Windows 10 Redstone builds

Internally, Microsoft is working on a number of features and changes coming to Redstone that are not currently present in the latest public preview builds. One feature Microsoft is working on improving is Windows Update, and in the latest internal builds of Redstone these improvements are now beginning to show up.

Edge download notifications now appear in the Action Center in latest Windows 10 Redstone build

A neat feature in the latest Redstone builds is the ability to see Microsoft Edge browser download complete notifications in the Action Center.
