Windows 10 for phones: Take a closer look at the new Calculator app

Windows 10 for phones was released in preview form to participants of the Windows Insider Program just recently. Along with the plethora of new features that the operating system brings to the table, we are given a brand new Calculator app. Let’s take a quick look at this new app and see what’s new.

As simple as it may seems, sometimes we utilize the Calculator app on our phones to make a quick calculation. I know I’ve found myself using the app on numerous occasions while at work. Microsoft’s new Calculator app for Windows 10 is not only redesigned compared to the previous version seen on Windows Phone 8.1, but it also comes with a large number of conversion categories for your converting pleasure.

As you can see in the screenshots above, the app on the left is the old Calculator app on Windows Phone 8.1. The app on the right is the new Calculator app found on Windows 10 for phones. The design has been cleaned up and looks amazing. You no longer need to utilize a third-party app for any kind of conversion.

As you can see from the screenshots above, there are plenty of conversion categories to choose from. If you want to convert weight, select the weight category. If you want to convert Celsius to Fahrenheit, select the Temperature category. You can even convert to kelvin.

Other categories include Data (which lets you convert kilobytes to megabytes, gigabytes, and more), Power (convert between watts, kilowatts, horsepower, etc), Area (convert to square kilometers, square centimeters, square feet, etc), and much more.

Microsoft has designed the app to be very functional and minimal — something we actually appreciate and enjoy using. If you have Windows 10 for phones installed, give the Calculator app a spin and check it out for yourself. Let us know what features you think the Calculator app is missing and should have.
