Windows 10 mobile

Another week of Windows 10 Mobile news in the bag. Let’s take this time to look back at last week’s hot stories in a feature we like to call “Windows 10 Mobile news recap.” This week, Microsoft rolled out a new build of the Windows 10 Mobile Preview to fast ring Insiders, which introduced a number of improvements to animations and overall performance

As per usual, we went hands on with the new build to showcase all its new features. You can check that out below.

Up next, Satya Nadella in an email to employees mentioned that in the future the company would need to make tough choices in areas which aren’t working. In light of the email, many jumped to the assumption that Nadella was referencing Windows Phone. Of course for those of us who’ve been following Microsoft closely, the first area “where things are not working” that pops to mind is indeed Windows Phone. Last week Nadella let go both Stephen Elop and Joan Harlow, two of the ex-Nokia executives leading the Windows Phone push both at Nokia and then later at Microsoft. Microsoft has been pointedly silent on new Windows Phone flagships, at a time when new phones are being readied for back to school sales, as Microsoft falls further and further behind.

Also this week, a new leak popped up claiming that Windows 10 Mobile would make its public debut sometime in October/November later this year. he document shows the dates that the company aims to have various updates for different platforms available to its users, including an “October or November” timeframe for updates to a range of Lumia devices. This fits in well with earlier reports that Windows 10 Mobile would be ready sometime in late September.

Finally this week, Microsoft is making big bets on Windows Phone in india. One emerging market where Microsoft is placing significant bets is India. In today’s article Dutta notes that Microsoft’s market share is growing in India with the recent surge in budget friendly models. In the first quarter of 2015 Microsoft claimed “a 4.5% share of smartphone shipments”, up from “3.6% in the last quarter of 2014.”

So there you have it, another week of Windows 10 Mobile news in the bag!
