Another week has concluded, bringing us another week of Windows 10 Mobile news. We’re taking a quick look back at the top stories of the week in a special feature we like to call Windows 10 Mobile news recap.
Microsoft rolled out Windows 10 Mobile build 10572 to participants of the Windows Insider program this past week. With this build, you can now get missed call notifications and send text messages on your PC with Cortana, and have the messages delivered via your phone. Skype messaging, calling, and video experience has also been improved, along with various other Cortana improvements. This particular build also improves battery life. Joe Belfiore, the Corporate VP of Microsoft’s Operating Systems Group, is heading on a months-long trip on a boat to explore the world in what he likes to call a “semester at sea.” Joe plans to leave in January, likely after Windows 10 Mobile is shipped. When the trip is over, Belfiore will be heading back to Microsoft to continue his role.
While there hasn’t been a lot of focus on Microsoft’s mobile earnings in their first quarter earnings report, there is a brief mention that the company’s phone revenue has declined by 54% due to their “updated strategy”. There’s no specific details given in regards to the mentioned strategy but it most likely refers to Microsoft’s restructuring of its mobile department and its new Universal app format which work across Windows 10 devices. There’s also the fact that Microsoft’s Windows 10 flagship devices, the Lumia 950 and 950 XL, were only recently announced and Windows 10 Mobile, which has been getting a lot of press, has yet to roll out to the general Windows Phone user. A 54% decline in revenue is nothing to take lightly but with all the changes underway in the Windows Phone section, it’s possible this could also be the calm before the storm.
Not too long ago, we showed you the alleged Lumia ‘Saana’ handset, which may launch as the Lumia 650. The handset is said to be another mid-range offering from the Redmond-based company, and is expected to ship with Windows 10 Mobile out of the box. Another press render of the alleged Lumia ‘Saana’ showed up on the internet, giving us a glimpse of the back side of the device. Nothing fancy, as this device is expected to target the budget category.
