Windows 10: Microsoft Edge gains a sexy ‘New Tab’ interface

Windows 10

Windows 10 build 10120 includes a number of new features in Edge (Spartan) which make the user-experience a lot nicer. Edge finally has a ‘New Tab’ page which allows easy access to the latest news and top websites. This brings back functionality found in IE’s ‘new tab’ page, except this time the UI is a lot more sexy.

As you can see in the screenshot above, the new UI is very modern, matching that of the rest of the operating system. There’s a search box which also acts as an address bar, meaning you can type a website URL into it and be taken straight there. Below that is your top sites, which is essentially identical to your most frequent sites on IE. In Edge however, if a website has an app in the Windows Store, you’ll be offered a link straight to their app too.

Below that you get the latest news, top apps in the Windows Store and the weather. Overall, this is an excellent UI for Edge and one I think will do users good. Of couse, if you don’t like the new tab UI you can turn it off and have it go to a blank page instead, so options are there.
