Last week, Microsoft released April Patch Tuesday updates for all supported versions of Windows 10. The fourth round of updates was notable from a security standpoint, especially because the build 18363.778 (KB4549951) for Windows 10 version 1909 improved security in all Microsoft Office products. But, at the same time, Microsoft seems to have spawned a plethora of other issues with this release.
More specifically, according to multiple user complaints posted on Microsoft Community forums (via Windows Latest), the build 18363.778 introduces numerous unexpected complications such as WiFi issues, BSODs and data loss (listed below).
Blue Screen of Death
When Microsoft shipped the build 18363.778, it didn’t acknowledge any issue in this release. However, emerging reports suggest that the buggy patch may cause the dreaded Blue Screen of Death error message on Windows 10 PCs. Several users noted on Microsoft Community forum [1, 2, 3] that updating their OS resulted in the BSoD error:
I have been without the use of my computer since the latest Windows 10 update occurred for me on the night of April 15, 2020. It made my computer totally unusable. The only thing I was able to get after signing in on Thursday morning was the blue screen of death. The computer would not boot up and it would not go into safe mode. I could not get it to do anything.
WiFi connectivity issues & more
In addition, some reports have also emerged that the new update breaks WiFi connectivity and even leads to data loss:
All files in Documents more than 1 week old are deleted without notification or moving to the Recycle Bin. No restore available, no help, no live chat, no nothing.
For now, the only reliable way to get rid of these frustrating issues is to uninstall the build 18363.778 (KB4549951) from your Windows 10 device. However, since the patch brings patches some important security vulnerabilities, the uninstallation is only recommended if you’re experiencing serious problems.
