Microsoft has postponed a feature in Windows 10 (for desktops only) that would allow a consumer to install their apps onto an SD Card, rather than a hard drive. Windows 10 Mobile, on the other hand, is unaffected and will continue to support this feature.
“We have actually made the decision to postpone the apps on SD functionality to a later release. While I know this feature excited many of us, we didn’t feel like it was ready for prime time. Our goal is to delight users with everything that we build, and we truly feel that that is what will happen once we have fully built our vision for this feature,” a Microsoft spokesperson stated.
Apparently, this feature is not ready for prime time, as stated in the quote above. But have no fear — this delay does not impact Windows 10 Mobile. However, if you plan to run Windows 10 on a smaller tablet, you wont be able to save your apps to an SD card to conserve system disk space. No word on when Microsoft plans to enable this feature on Windows 10 for desktop. It will likely arrive in a future update — perfectly fitting the ideology of “Windows as a Service.”
