WhatsApp Beta Updated With New Features, Lets You Set Custom Backgrounds For Chats – onmsft.com

Whatsapp Beta

WhatsApp is one of those apps that doesn’t require an introduction. The app also came under the spotlight after it was purchased by Facebook for a whopping $19 billion. But, that’s not the thing we’re going to talk about. For those of you who don’t know, WhatsApp runs a private beta for Windows Phone that give users access to new features before it goes public. Recently, WhatsApp beta received an update and introduced a handy feature that give users the ability to set custom backgrounds for their chats.

It’s not just for all chats, users can even set a custom background for individual contacts as well, meaning the chat window with a friend can have a different background, while you can set another background for your family members. You have the option to select the image from the gallery consisting of 41 HQ images, use your camera to capture an image and use it, search the web, or even choose from your saved photo albums.

This appears to be a good feature, but the next update for WhatsApp is said to be a big one with many new features such as media auto-download, ability to set custom notifications, privacy controls, and much more. Some of these features are already available on Android and iOS, such as the privacy control feature which lets users restrict contacts who can see their “last seen time”, profile photo, and status update.

There’s no word about the availability of the next big update for WhatsApp for Windows Phone, but rumors suggests it shouldn’t take too long and may launch by the end of this month. In case that happens, we’ll definitely update you.
