Video: ARM-powered Windows 8 prototypes

During Computex in Taipei, Microsoft showcased several ARM-based Windows 8 prototype slates and smart-books. Several manufacturers also unveiled their early hardware for the new Windows 8 operating system.

Foxconn, Wistron, and Quanta all unveiled early hardware for Windows 8 while companies like Qualcomm, Texas Instruments, and NVIDIA showcased their chips powering the live tiles featured in the new operating system.

Nvidia even showcased its upcoming Kal-EL tablet, which is a tablet and a super-slip notebook hybrid.

Qualcomm also plans on releasing two new chips to support Microsoft’s next generation OS. First on the list is Qualcomm’s dual-core MSM8960 Snapdragon with integrated 3G/LTE modem, followed by the quad-core Snapdragon APQ8064 which comes out in early 2012.
