Office Lens, for those that did not know, is a free app that essentially transforms your Windows Phone handset into a scanner complete with OCR (optical character recognition) so text and handwriting can be converted into an editable form. The app features integration with OneNote, allowing you to sync captured notes across all your devices.
Microsoft has rolled out an update for Office Lens, bumping the version number to 1.1.3306.0. In this update, your pictures can now be converted to Word or PowerPoint files and saved directly to OneDrive. Word files will have their document layout preserved and the text in the picture is converted into editable text. PowerPoint files will transform handwritten strokes into drawing objects that can be recolored and edited. The app update also features various bug fixes, making the app much more stable than before.
Office Lens is quite useful, especially when you are looking to capture text from a book or magazine, or save details from any piece of paper. Office Lens, while utilizing the Windows Phone camera lens, can capture that text with ease.
