The top free, paid, and trending Windows Phone apps and games as of August 17th

The Windows Phone Store is now home to over 300,000 Windows Phone apps, with new apps coming in on a weekly basis. Let’s take a look at the Windows Phone Store and see which apps are at the top of the charts when it comes to the free, paid, and trending categories. We’ll also highlight some of these apps that have made it to the top of the charts.

As of August 17th, the top-five free apps in the Windows Phone Store are OneDrive, Health & Fitness, Messenger, Battery Saver, and Travel. The top-five paid apps are 8.1 HD Tiles, Metrotube, GPS Thermometer, Fiete, and Airyware Tuner. The top-five trending apps are Swarm, NFL Fantasy Football, YouTube+, Live Lock Themes, and Live Lockscreen Themes.

The top-five free games are Hungry Shark Evolution, Subway Surfers, Fail Hard, Ice Age Adventures, and Angry Birds Epic. The top-five paid games are Cut The Rope Exp, Angry Birds, Plants vs Zombies, Rabbids Big Bang, and Sonic CD.

So as you can see, noting new or exciting happened in the Windows Phone Store this past week. We did learn that the Windows Phone Store is now home to over 300,000 apps. Let’s take a look at some of these apps and perhaps you might find your new favorite app.

  • 8.1 HD Tiles ($0.99) – Another app that offers you the ability to turn app tiles transparent on your Start screen.
  • \n

  • GPS Thermometer ($0.99) – This very simple app displays the temperature for your current location.
  • \n

  • Fiete ($0.99) – A beautifully illustrated, interactive picture book for children between 1 to 3 years.  
  • \n

  • ​Swarm (free) – Swarm, the new app from Foursquare, is the fastest way to keep up and meet up with your friends. With Swarm, you can easily see who’s out nearby and who wants to hang out later.
  • \n

  • NFL Fantasy Football (free) – The official NFL.com Fantasy Football app is your ultimate free fantasy football companion on the go.
  • \n

  • Hungry Shark Evolution (free) – Experience life as a Shark in the ultimate test of survival. Jaw dropping 3D graphics and action packed gameplay.
