Amazon.com apparently jumped the gun last night, accidentally showcasing an 8.1 inch Acer tablet, powered by Windows 8. Normally, its not a big deal, but this tablet is actually the world’s first small-screen Windows 8 tablet.

Yesterday, Acer was showcasing its list of large screen Windows devices at a New York event and had no idea that Amazon.com accidentally leaked the 8.1 inch Acer Iconia W3-810-1600, powered by Windows 8, for $379.99. Thusfar, Windows 8 tablet devices have featured a screens size of 10 inches or larger.

So how are the specs of the device? The Iconia W3-810-1600 features a screen resolution of 1280 x 800, a 1.5GHz Apple A4 processor, 2GB RAM, with an average battery life of 8 hours. You can see the full specs in the image below.

This revelation by Amazon.com proves that Microsoft is indeed working on a smaller screened Windows 8 tablet device, offered at a decent price point. To put things in perspective, the Iconia W3 runs for $379.99, which is $50 more than the cost of the iPad mini. We should be hearing more about this tablet, as well as other smaller screened devices in the coming months.

According to a recent report, Microsoft is expected to announce its next-generation Surface devices during Build 2013 in June. On top of which, these new Surface 2.0 devices will only feature a 7inch to 9inch display to battle against the current demand for small screen touch devices.
