Microsoft has finally announced the rollout of its new Tasks app in Microsoft Teams on mobile for all users in non-government tenants. The new experience started rolling out last week, and it should be generally available by mid-December.
Initially announced in April 2020, Tasks in Teams is already available to Microsoft 365 subscribers as a desktop app in non-government clouds. It is a powerful tool that combines Microsoft Planner and Microsoft To Do to form a consolidated task management experience. According to Microsoft, the features are primarily the same for mobile users, including the attachments and labels functionality in Planner task cards, with few changes.
“The biggest difference is how you see your tasks: whereas the Tasks app for desktop offers four different views (Board, Charts, Schedule, and List), the Tasks mobile app surfaces your tasks in the List view only. On a mobile device, this makes it easier to quickly skim all your tasks at once and click into those assignments for more details,” the company explained.
Please be aware that the Tasks mobile app will not replace the existing Planner mobile app on Android and iOS devices. Microsoft says that users should use the Tasks mobile app to see a consolidated view of all tasks, and the Planner app can help to manage the collaborative plans in the Charts, Schedule, and Board views.
To try out the new Tasks app on mobile, users need to tap More (…) in the Teams mobile app on their iOS and Android devices and then select the Tasks option. Keep in mind that the company is currently rolling out Tasks on mobile, so you may not see it right away. The app will automatically appear in the menu once it’s available in your tenant.
