Surface Laptop Studio Gets Beta Of Dynamic Refresh Rate

Many Windows laptops or desktop PCs with displays that have refresh rates higher than 60Hz (say 90 Hz or 120 HZ) have an ability in the settings for a dynamic refresh option, as provided by Windows 11. This lets the OS automatically choose the right refresh rate for the content it sees on the screen to optimize for battery or performance. Well, the Surface Laptop Studio is finally getting this in beta after it shipped without it (via Windows Central.)

To enjoy this option, your Surface Laptop Studio will have to be enrolled in either the  Dev Channel or Windows Insider Beta Channel of the Windows Insider Program. Once you enroll, you’ll see that you should get new Intel drivers and Surface Firmware in Windows Update. The Intel driver will show as Intel Corporation, Display, 30.0.101.1340. The Surface, meanwhile, shows as Surface, Firmware, 10.0.156.0.

Installing the drivers will add a new Dynamic (60Hz or 120Hz) option under the Advanced Display settings in Windows 11. This should then let Windows choose the right rate where it sees fit, say 120Hz when scrolling in Edge, or 60Hz when you’re creating folders on your desktop.
