If you’re a gamer, there’s lots to like about Windows 10.  The built in Xbox One integration and the ability to play games from your Xbox on your PC, support for DirectX 12, and better Windows Store support for games on Windows are all big plusses for gamers. Along with the merging of the best of Windows 7 and Windows 8.x and a big bright marketing push for the new OS (can you say “free”?) all give gamers lots to like about Microsoft’s latest OS.

That’s bearing out in the latest numbers released by Steam, the game streaming service, and Windows 10 is already making a strong showing only a few days after launch.  Steam’s latest monthly numbers, for July, show Windows 10 (the 64bit version) coming in at 2.21% usage.  Windows 7 64bit still holds a strong lead at 44.91%, although it dropped a percentage point last month, signaling that Windows 7 users may be first to upgrade.  Here are the OS numbers for July:

We’ll be keeping a close eye on Steam’s monthly reports, as well as our own sleuthing to bring you all the latest numbers with an ultimate goal of getting Windows 10 onto a billion machines some time in the next three years.
