Star Wars characters coming to Disney Infinity 3.0 later this year

Ever since Disney bought the rights to Star Wars, most assumed it was only a matter of time until they brought the series’ characters and locations to their multi-platform video game, Disney Infinity. After leaked images of a Star Wars themed Disney Infinity 3.0 Edition Starter Pack began to surface online late last month, Disney has finally confirmed their plans to incorporate Star Wars into Infinity with a special teaser trailer, a press release, and official images of the leaked Starter Pack featuring Ahsoka Tano and Anakin Skywalker from the Star Wars Clone Wars TV series, a figure base, the “Star Wars: Twilight of the Republic Play Set” and of course the latest version of Disney Infinity (3.0) for either Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 or 4 and Nintendo Wii U.

Interestingly, besides vague references to two all-new Star Wars Play Sets in the Episode I-III and Episode IV-VI timelines, no other information is revealed and only the Starter Pack is available for pre-order on online stores which suggests that this was more of a reaction to the leak instead of a planned announcement. Indeed the press releases advises waiting until June’s E3 for more information and teases themed products for December’s new Star Wars film, The Force Awakens.

Despite the lack of official character information, pre-orders or images the official teaser trailer does reveal the inclusion of Tatooine, the forest moon of Endor, The Empire Strikes Back’s asteroid field, and Hoth as playable locations within the game and suggests that Darth Maul, Obi Wan Kenobi, Darth Vader, R2D2, C3PO, Yoda, Han Solo and Princess Leia will join confirmed characters, Ahsoka Tano and Anakin Skywalker, as playable characters with their own Disney Infinity figures.

The initial release of Disney Infinity featured mainly Disney and Pixar properties while the second expansion, 2.0 introduced Marvel Comics characters into the mix. Each upgrade to the game can use the previous version’s characters and extras so version 2.0 is compatible with the original game and 2.0 accessories, while 3.0 will work with everything.

Disney is really pushing for an increased Star Wars presence on consoles with the recent release of all six Star Wars films on Xbox Video and a new Star Wars Pinball FX2 pinball table. There’s also the upcoming release of Star Wars Battlefront in November which has quickly become one of the most anticipated games of the year.
