Skype for Xbox picks a major update, brings along contact filtering, new emoticons and improved chat

Skype for Xbox has received the much awaited update today. Launched in November of last year, this is the first major update this app has picked up. Among several new features, including contact filtering and Captain America emoticons, the new version fixes many of the bugs and enhances several existing features.

“In the past few months, we’ve been listening to your feedback and working hard to fix some of the issues our users have been experiencing. So keep telling us what you’re finding, and we’ll keep improving the experience to make Skype for Xbox One the best it can be,” Microsoft stated in an official blog post.

Here’s a list of features you get with the updated version:

  • Improved Chat: Improving sync across devices, users will now get push notifications to keep things sorted. Also, the chat history which as of now only stores messages of last 7 days will now store 1000 messages instead.
  • Contact Filtering: The updated version will allow you to filter contacts by seeing who is online. This is a handy improvement since, before the update, people were required to scroll through the entire contact list.
  • Captain America Emoticons: Love the Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier? Well, the new version brings along several emoticons from the title.
  • Tutorial for beginners: If you’re new to Skype, the app offers tutorials to explain you the work arounds.

As expected, there has been lots of bug fixes to make the app smoother and more reliable. Let us know how you like the new features.
