Skype for Windows PC snags an update, brings some quality improvements

For our readers who have been complaining that Microsoft has been focusing more on pushing Skype updates on other platforms before its own, here is some good news. Microsoft has just rolled out an update for the desktop version of Skype. However, there aren’t any new features, but just some bug fixes.

Bumping up the version to 6.18, the new update squashes bugs that occurred while importing contacts from Facebook, as well as the wrong timestamp in the messages. Skype team has also fixed the ‘group video enabled’ annotations which occurred when any of the group member had a Skype Premium subscription — because as you might recall, group video call is now free for every Skype user.

Here is the complete changelog:

  • Import contacts from Facebook showing empty for some users
  • Further sign in screen improvements to prevent empty
  • Messages showing wrong timestamp
  • There was a confusing message about group video being enabled because a participant has Skype Premium. We removed this as group video calls are free for everyone for a while now.
  • More stability improvements based on the feedback and reports from you here on the Community

You can snag the updated version of Skype from the download link below. What new features would you like to see in the next version of Skype? Are you facing any other issues that haven’t been fixed in this update? Share it with us in the comments below.
