Skype introduces improved audio processing technology in latest version

Skype

Skype is one of the most popular pieces of VoIP software available, not just for Windows, but on a majority of platforms such as Android, iOS, etc. If you happen to be a regular user of Skype, you will have to make sure you have the latest version of Skype if you want to enjoy the latest features. The company is working on a number of improved technologies in order to improve user experience.

Recently, Skype has announced a new “advanced audio processing technology,” which is apparently present in the latest version, and focuses on improved audio quality. The name definitely sounds a little complicated, but with this feature, users will get high quality audio even in distorted environments — whether you’re in a party, or waiting at the train station, the voice quality will be good no matter which device you’re using.

“Audio signal processing over mobile devices is getting more sophisticated all the time. We can therefore leverage the audio capabilities that have been optimized for a specific device’s acoustics,” notes Sriram Srinivasan, Senior Program Manager, Audio Digital Signal Processing. “Several Lumia phones, for example, have multiple microphones, and what we do is work with the Lumia team to make sure those devices’ capabilities are perfectly aligned with what we want Skype to do.”

This is just one of the technologies being worked on, Skype’s Karlheinz Wurm said that we’re living in a really fast-moving world, where the software has to be updated on a regular basis if you want to stand out.

“The market changes too quickly and we need to be able to respond to situations in an agile way. An example is iOS8 – we know it’s coming, and we need to make sure that Skype works perfectly on it as soon as possible. So that means we can develop long term plans, but we need to release software on an extremely frequent basis in smaller chunks,” Wurm siad.

Make sure you have the latest version of Skype if you want to make use of the improved audio management technology. Head over to the respective app store and grab the latest version now!
