Samsung finally ditches its productivity suite in favor of Microsoft Word

Samsung is finally ready to ditch its productivity suite in favor of Microsoft Word. The company has announced that it will start using Word throughout its offices from January 1, 2015.

The announcement comes a week after Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella met Samsung Chairman Lee Jae-Yong in Korea to ease up the tension between the two companies. Last month Microsoft sued Samsung to claim royalties over Android patents. While the companies haven’t acknowledged how the conversation went, today’s announcement does suggest that their relationship is back on good terms.

The reason for the switch to Microsoft Word? The near universal compatibility of Microsoft Word is the reason Samsung has decided to switch away from the in-house JungUm Global software. Samsung has been using its own in-house software since 1994.

Speaking of Korea, earlier this week, Microsoft also announced that it will be establishing a data center in Korea on a 165,000-square-meter plot. This will be Korea’s first global cloud data center.
