Not too long ago, we learned that Microsoft had already begun work on the next big update to Windows 8, called Windows Blue, as well as development of Windows 9, the next major operating system from Microsoft. Now, a new rumor has surfaced claiming that Windows 9 will be released in 2014.
According to this rumor (citing unnamed sources), Windows 9 will see the first public beta release on the 7th of January 2014, while a Release Candidate will be seen during July of 2014. Windows 9 would then hit RTM in October of 2014 and see availability in November of 2014. The rumor also states that Windows 9 will not see the return of the Start button/menu, but rather will feature improvements to the Start Screen.
To us, this rumor makes no sense. Why would Microsoft release Windows 9 so soon, especially after the heels of an update to Windows 8 by the name of Blue? Regardless, it is entertaining to read such rumors, but remember, this is not fact and Microsoft has yet to reveal anything official about the next version of Windows.
