Back at the Mobile World Congress 2015, Microsoft introduced a pair of new devices catering the entry level/mid-range segment of the market — the Lumia 640 and 640 XL. As always, Microsoft didn’t give out an exact availability date for major markets, except to say that Lumia 640 will hit retail in March, while its bigger sibling will be available in April.
Well, if it makes you happy, Microsoft Store France and Germany have listed the expected release date for the dual-SIM variant of the 640 handset in those countries, which appear to be April 16th. Several carriers in major markets are also expected to offer the handset when it launches — some of them have already confirmed.
As a quick recap, the Lumia 640 packs a 5-inch display sporting a resolution of 1280 by 720 pixels, a quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.2GHz, 1GB of RAM and 8Gb of internal storage. There’s an 8MP camera on the back for photos and videos, a 2,500 mAh battery and ships with Windows Phone 8.1 with Lumia Denim as its operating system, and like all Windows Phone 8.1 capable phones will be upgradeable to Windows 10 for phones.
On the other hand, the Lumia 640 XL packs a similar set of specifications with a few changes, such as a bigger 5.7-inch display, a better 13MP camera on the back, and a bigger 3,000 mAh battery to make sure you don’t have to worry about the battery time.
