Just recently, Windows 8.1 Update 1 RTM was made available to users worldwide via a registry tweak, making it seem that Microsoft themselves had inadvertently leaked the highly-anticipated update to Windows 8.1. Now, a new report suggests that this update was not the final build, rather, it was a test build.
According to the Chinese site PCBeta (which I saw via a report on Neowin), build 17031, which was made available last week, may not have been the final build that is scheduled to roll out in April. Within a few hours, Microsoft pulled the update after methods to obtain the update via Windows Update became known.
The report also states that Microsoft was simply testing the update mechanism, in preparation for the update’s release via Windows Update in April. Microsoft has yet to comment on the issue.
Windows 8.1 Update 1 is scheduled for a Spring 2014 roll out, according to Microsoft. Unfortunately the company did not provide a specific date for the highly-anticipated update. Rumors have suggested this update will roll out during the April 2014 Patch Tuesday, which takes place April 8th.
