Console sales between the Xbox One and the PS4 have been going back and forth since November 2014. Now Sony seems to have taken the lead again in March overtaking Microsoft for the best selling console of the month. Since the top seller seems to go back and forth it would seem both companies are selling a large number of consoles and the intense competition is good overall for business.
With E3 right around the corner console numbers will be much more interesting for the months of June and July when gamers choose a console based upon exclusive new games and hardware announcements made at E3. Reactions to E3 can spell disaster for either company; the unveiling of the Xbox One in May of 2013 stands as a great example of how gamers can quickly turn against any company if they emphasize the ‘wrong thing.’
Microsoft recently made some hardware announcements concerning new Xbox Ones with a 1TB hard drive, an improved controller, and support for Oculus Rift. Interestingly, this announcement occurred before E3 making many think Microsoft intends to focus on games and software this year. There have also been rumors of a new slim Xbox One with a faster processor. Sony on the other hand has been quiet in the lead up to E3 possibly signifying a 1TB PS4 on its way next week. However both companies seem to be listening intently to gamers and plan to announce lots of games which may boost console sales in the summer months, but we’ll know for sure soon enough.
