Power View for Office 365 gains new forecasting tools

Microsoft today launched new forecasting tools for Office 365’s Power View. The new tools make it possible to analyse data, forecast results, and product trend models, but there is also the interesting possibility of “hindcasting” — this enables you to check to see how Power View would have used old data to predict current results.

The Power BI blog offers a brief overview of how to get started with the new tools, providing hints and tips about how you can use them to best effect.

The forecasting has a number of potential usage, but it is something that is likely to prove particularly useful in predicting financial outcomes and checking out “what if” scenarios. It’s clearly something aimed at businesses, but it’s also something that could be put to use in home financing.
