Xbox One owners, it’s time to dig out your inner 80’s kid-self and indulge in the latest game staring one of the era’s most celebrated icons. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan (TMNT: MIM) has arrived on the platform, announces Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb on his webpage.
Any gamers in recent years should know what to expect here when they hear of the name Platinum Games behind the wheel. Sure enough, the game is a 3D beat-em-up that promises the trademark Platinum Games’ satisfying combat and nice comic-inspired cel-shaded visuals.

The features that set it apart – not counting the nostalgic factor induced by the titular main characters – is the focus on a co-op experience. The game’s team of ninja turtles consists of four members, each with different color schemes, weapons and play styles (and personalities too, if the game can capture that), lending itself well to a co-op ass kicking experience. It’s too bad that, unlike its predecessors, couch-gaming doesn’t seem to be possible with TMNT: MIM, as the co-op looks to be online only.
While the game doesn’t look to stray too far from the usual beat-em-up formula, a combination of decent graphics, nostalgia-inducing characters, original story from the creator of TMNT, satisfying combat, and humanoid turtles that at least looks better than Michael Bay’s version of mutated high-octane nightmare fuel, TMNT: MIM promises to be a nice present to fans of the series and beat-em-up lovers alike.
