Paul Allen to Microsoft: Accelerate your product development

In a recent interview, Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen criticized the world’s largest software maker by saying the company “needs to accelerate the pace of product development” to compete with rivals such as Google and Apple.

As Bloomberg reports, Paul Allen believes that Microsoft needs to “accelerate the pace of product development.” Allen refers to Microsoft’s Kinect and Windows Phone OS as “resonating with a younger audience” rather than working on attaining “more momentum” in new technology market.

Allen may have had criticism for Microsoft but he had nothing but good things to say about Apple. Allen states that Steve Jobs has done an “unbelievable” job in recent years especially with a “three-horse race” to innovate on new platforms including smartphones and tablet computers. “What he’s done with the iPod, the iPhone and the iPad … what a triple play there.”

Paul Allen, who co-founded Microsoft with Bill Gates in 1975 and subsequently left the company in 1983 when he was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, has a memoir titled “Idea Man” that will be released this week.
