Office for iPhone and iPads becomes the top free apps in the App Store after price removal

\

Free things are always good. When Microsoft released the Office apps for iPad, they required an Office 365 subscription for those who wanted to edit documents on their tablets using the productivity suite. However, things changed; Microsoft removed the subscription free with the latest update, allowing all users to edit their documents without buying the Office 365 subscription. It appears it was a good move as it has helped the Office apps (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) to skyrocket to the top of the charts on the App Store.

Microsoft Word is the number one free app on iTunes App Store for both iPhone and iPad overall and in the productivity category, followed by Excel and PowerPoint in the top ranks. Now, all a user has to do is sign in with their Microsoft account, and they are good to go.

Along with the price drop, Microsoft also announced last week that Office for iPad downloads have surpassed 40 million, in fact, there are over a billion users using the Office productivity suite. The latest update also introduced a number of new features for the apps, including support for Dropbox, giving users the ability to open, edit and share documents directly from the cloud storage website to Office apps.
