OBS Studio is free and open-source live-streaming software that allows users to capture and record microphone input, audio, and webcam. Moreover, content creators can use the same platform to record and broadcast their videos on Twitch, YouTube, and Facebook. Some of the notable features that the platform provides include closed captioning, move transition, and plenty of customization and plugins.
Recently, Telegram added support for streaming via OBS Studio and XSplit, thus, allowing users to reach a wider audience with more professional presentations and with more features. And now, OBS Studio has made it to Steam. In essence, this will provide an easier way for users to install and update it. Initially, users could only access the app on the official website or the GitHub page.
The application is available for users with macOS 10.13 or higher as well as Windows 8.1 or higher (64-bit only). However, OBS Studio for Linux is not supported on Steam yet. “Linux would require a different build that is separate from our Ubuntu PPA or Flatpak efforts. While we will look into the feasibility of providing such a version, we are already pretty busy as-is and will be focusing on Flatpak as well as general OBS-on-Linux development for the time being.”
It is also worth noting that, OBS Studio on Steam does not support cloud saving. However, there are plans underway to include this feature in future versions of the app.
