November firmware update for the Surface Pro 3 is now available via Windows Update

\n

Owners of Microsoft’s flagship PC (can never get tired of saying that) are in for a treat, as new updates are now rolling out to Surface Pro 3 owners. Based on feedback that Microsoft has received from owners of the device, the software giant has prepared a number of improvements for various hardware components, as detailed below.

\n

The first improvement comes in the form of a UEFI update. Previously, SP3 owners that had McAfee Defense Encryption 7.1.1 installed would result in the device booting to a black screen, which has now been resolved. Additionally, the update optimizes the FWPOST times to a mere 3.7 seconds when fast boot is enabled. A situation where the system clock loses time when the battery falls below 3% has also been fixed.

\n

Another improvement has been made to the sensitivity of the hardware Surface Home button and the Surface Pen. This new driver update will help prevent cases where the button and pen may accidentally wake the device up from sleep when being stored or carried.

\n

Lastly, the update includes a new update for the wireless network controller and Bluetooth drivers for the SP3, which according to Microsoft:

\n

    \n

  • Enables better throughput after waking from sleep and connecting to an 802.11AC network.
  • \n

  • Ensures Infra scan list is not empty while connected to a wireless display adapter.
  • \n

  • Resolves an issue connecting to Cisco 1242 access points.
  • \n

  • Ensures device reconnects properly to a hidden SSID using a 5Ghz DFS channel after waking from sleep.
  • \n

  • Adds customer-requested functionality to prefer 5Ghz connections when both a 2.4ghz and 5ghz connection are present with the same SSID.
  • \n

\n

That’s a good number of fixes so Surface Pro 3 owners should head over and check for updates via Windows Update to keep their devices healthy. There has been no recent firmware updates for the older Surface Pro or Surface Pro 2.
