No more updates for The Sims FreePlay on Windows Phone, says EA

The Sims FreePlay is the well-known counterpart to The Sims franchise, letting mobile players live their daily addiction to playing the life simulation game. However, according to a statement from EA distributed in the app, the game will be ceasing content updates on Windows Phone.

With the most recent update, The Sims FreePlay added daycares for their toddler life stage. But what was supposed to be an exciting and lighthearted addition to the game ended up being bittersweet. Upon loading up the app, Windows Phone users were also greeted with a jarring announcement of EA’s withdraw from adding new content.

The in-game dialogue reads:

“Hi Simmers! Thanks for downloading the Day Care update! Unfortunately we are unable to develop any future updates for The Sims FreePlay on Windows Phone. We hope you continue to enjoy Simming as much as we have enjoyed building it for you. Thank you for all your support over the years!”

Firemonkeys, the EA studio in Melbourne, Australia that creates regular content for mobile, confirmed the rather disappointing news on their website. “The Day care update from April 2017 will be the final new content for the Windows Phone platform,” they explained in their FAQ. “We’ll still be able [to] provide technical support for current issues.”

The Sims FreePlay continues to live on and is available for download and play. But if you want live development, you’ll have to go to iOS, Amazon, or Android for your mobile Simming needs. Refunds are not being provided for content purchased on Windows Phones.
