Security solutions provider Absolute announced late last week that Microsoft will enable their Persistence technology in Microsoft Surface 3 devices through their April firmware update. If you’re not familiar with it, Absolute Persistence technology is embedded in the firmware of computers, netbooks, tablets and smartphones by global OEMs to “provide organizations with visibility and control over all of their devices, regardless of user or location.”
As a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner, the company is currently embedding its Persistence technology in various Surface models including the Surface Pro 3, Surface Pro 4, Surface Book and Surface 3. Under the terms of the new agreement, the technology will now be embedded in Surface 3 devices globally, with the company adding “once activated, Microsoft customers will receive unparalleled security and data risk management capabilities allowing IT to maintain a reliable two-way connection to all devices, regardless of user or location.” Absolute CEO Geoff Haydon added:
“Since the launch of the Surface device line, we have worked closely with Microsoft to provide our shared customers with an additional layer of security, allowing them to manage and respond to the data risks that are inherent with a mobile workforce. We are thrilled to expand this partnership and introduce our technology to the Surface 3 market, supporting user productivity while securing each device and the data it contains.”
While the Surface 3 is not exactly top of the line, it’s still the most affordable Surface model and this new support for the Persistence technology could help it gain more success among businesses looking to provide their mobile workforce with secure devices.
