A PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) movie could be coming to Netflix

Chang Han Kim, the CEO of PUBG Corporation, the game studio behind the mega-successful PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) which launched on the Xbox One last month, recently sat down for an interview with Inven Global and revealed plans for expanding the PUBG brand beyond that of simply a video game.

“I’d like PUBG to become a universal media franchise based on the game. We want to take part in diverse industries including Esports, movies, drama, cartoons, animation, and more,” Kim said. “In fact, we received a couple of love calls from a number of developers in Hollywood and Netflix. Our dream is to build a new game-based culture through various ways like this, and have the lead of that culture.”

Hollywood blockbusters based off of video game franchises aren’t anything new, just take a look at the Assassin’s Creed film that came out in 2017. Of particular interest in this quote though is the mention of Netflix who has recently begun investing in series and movies based off of geek culture brands like Voltron and He-Man and has already made some video game-inspired content as seen from its Castlevania animated project. A Netflix series or film based on PUBG would feel like a perfect fit, especially when taking into consideration the violent themes and imagery associated with a large number of strangers being forced to kill each other which would be difficult to show on traditional networks.

Would you like to see a PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds film or series? Would you like it to be animated or live action? Let us know in the comments below.
