New Microsoft Defender Preview app for Windows is being tested internally

Microsoft appears to be testing a new Microsoft Defender Preview app for Windows 10 and Windows 11 PCs. The app was spotted earlier this week by Aggiornamenti Lumia, and WalkingCat followed up today by sharing a link to the store listing.

If this new Microsoft Defender Preview app can already be downloaded from the Microsoft Store on Windows 10 and Windows 11,  signing in with your personal Microsoft account won’t work. As Microsoft has yet to officially announce this new app, it looks like it’s still restricted to Microsoft employees.

The app currently welcomes users with a message that mentions a “simple, seamless and personalized protection so you and your family can enjoy peace of mind.” According to the store listing description, the Microsoft Defender Preview app won’t have a Windows-only focus, as it will let users “secure your devices across operating systems including Windows, Apple, and Android.”

This cross-platform focus suggests that this new Microsoft Defender Preview app may not replace the existing Windows Security app, which lets Windows 10 and Windows 11 users manage the apps and services that protect their PC. Instead, it’s possible that this app could serve as a central security hub for your personal Windows, iOS, and Android devices, and the store listing also mentioned a family focus.

Anyway, we’re looking forward to seeing Microsoft share more information about this new Microsoft Defender Preview client for Windows PCs, though the app could still be in early stages of development. Let us know in the comments what
