Netflix launches new feature allowing users to create personalized gamertags – onmsft.com

Netflix has rolled out a new feature that allows users to create their own customized public gamer handles for the platform. Though at present it is only available for the Netflix mobile app on Android and iOS.

It works much the same way that gamer handles do on other platforms; users can create a unique public username that is ubiquitous across all games, and is separate from a user’s Netflix username and profile picture. The gamer handle is also what will display in online leaderboards and in multiplayer games.

As Mobile Games Product Manager for Netflix Sophia Yang said,

(The launch of Netflix gamertags) Is only the beginning in building a tailored game experience for our members around the world. We’ll continue to adapt and evolve our service to meet the needs of our members…”

Game Handle 02

Does this suggest the forthcoming arrival of other features like the ability for users to show online status and invite others into the games they are playing? As has already been reported by TechCrunch, the code for such implementation is present within the app.

This along with the recent announcement of an all-new internal game development studio in Helsinki, Finland, shows that the video streaming giant is really serious in its shift toward including mobile gaming as part of its services.
