It is safe to say that before its release there were relatively few awaiting Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor with bated breath. From trailers and demos, the game seemed to be a Lord of the Rings-flavored rehash of Assassin’s Creed. Luckily, everyone who thought this was rather wrong.

\

Instead, the title proved to be a critical and commercial success, and following on these coat-tails comes the Game of the Year Edition (as reported by Major Nelson), now available on Xbox One, stuffed with a great deal of DLC goodness. The game challenges players to navigate the tricksy politics and passages of Mordor, playing something of an assassin from hell, with a little Wraith-magic baked in for good measure.

\

Winning over 50 game of the year awards in 2014, if you haven’t already had a punt at Shadow of Mordor, then now is the ideal time to indulge.
