Some internal shuffling is reportedly happening at Microsoft right now, as a new report suggests Tony Bates and Tami Reller are set to leave the company. Eric Rudder, EVP of advanced strategy, is reportedly taking over Bates’ position. Microsoft marketing executive Chris Capossela is reportedly replacing Reller.
“Two direct reports to new Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella – EVP of business development and evangelism Tony Bates and EVP of marketing Tami Reller – are leaving the company, according to numerous sources close to the situation. It’s not clear where either exec is headed, if anywhere immediately. But Nadella told top staff of the changes on Friday and the software giant was planning to announce them Tuesday,” Recode stated.
Tami Reller is one of the top female leaders at Microsoft, next to Executive VP of HR Lisa Brummel, CFO Amy Hood, and Executive VP of applications and services Julie Larson-Green. Back in November 2012, Microsoft announced that Reller would take over the business and marketing strategy for Windows devices, including Surface and partner devices, in addition to her marketing and finance responsibilities.
Tony Bates, who was one of the internal candidates for CEO, is expected to leave immediately and his departure reportedly should not come as a surprise since he recently told CEO Nadella that he could not make a long term commitment to the company. Bates joined Microsoft after the company bought Skype back in 2011.
Microsoft has yet to officially comment on this report.
