Microsoft recently announced plans to reintroduce the Start Menu to Windows in an upcoming version of the operating system. The company was vague to pinpoint an exact date for its return, but rumors claimed it would return in a second update for Windows 8.1. Apparently, that’s not the case as today new information about the Start Menu surfaced.
The Start Menu will return next year, not later this year. It could return in the form of Windows 9, which is rumored to be released in April 2015. They haven’t given any solid reason regarding this decision, but one thing’s for sure, it’s definitely coming.
At BUILD 2014 developer conference which was held in April, Terry Myerson, Microsoft Executive Vice President who runs the unified operating system group, revealed the new Start menu. “These are glimpses of our roadmap, with a particular focus on the parts of our roadmap that are most relevant to our developer partners. We’ll continue to invest in these and many other areas to build a great platform and experiences for developers, customers and partners and you’ll hear more from us when this work is closer to being ready to ship out to the world,” Myerson said regarding the update.
